Give each proposal the same questions.
Create a simple document with columns for each proposal. Add rows for equipment, layout, schedule, total price, responsibilities, and unresolved questions. Write the answer in plain language or ask the provider to clarify it.
Separate the product from the agreement.
Review what will be installed and, separately, the agreement governing payment and ownership. Ask who is responsible for maintenance and what happens if you sell your home. Obtain specific written answers for the agreement you are considering.
Keep a record of what changes.
If the design or price is revised, keep the latest version and record what changed. Before deciding, make sure the final documents reflect the explanation you relied on. Seek independent advice when a term is unclear.
